DAI JONES: 200 up
Dai Jones became the 15th British rider to join the 200 club when he reached his double Point-to-Point century at Erw Lon on Saturday courtesy of Cannon Bridge, who dead-heated with Overlut in the Mens Open.
Dai's first success, on China Wedding, was achieved on the same track in 1983.
Erw Lon was also the venue for Rhys Hughes's 50th victory between the flags. Rhys, who as the rider of Overlut had shared the Open spoils with Dai, won the Restricted on Shuil An Burren to bring up the 50.
Another to reach a half-century of Point-to-Point winners was Richard Hunnisett, who made all the running to land the Men's Open at Guilsborough on Denvale. It was Richard's first ride of the season, as he has been sidelined with a broken arm sustained out hunting.
It was also a red-letter day at Guilsborough for Tammy Webster, 16, who opened her account on only her second ride. Tammy won the Ladies' Open on Danaeve, who is just two years younger than his pilot.
The third Guilsborough landmark was reached by Hannah Watson, who recorded her first double on a pair owned by Rosemary Gasson, Breeze To The Top in the Confined and Always Willing in the Restricted. "I'm so pleased they were for Rosemary, because she's supported me so much," smiled Hannah.
Former conditional Jamie Jenkinson, who had previously ridden one winner over hurdles and who now works for Sheila Crow, scored his initial Point-to-Point victory on Chalk It Up in the Connolly's Red Mills Intermediate at Tabley. Chalk It Up, who is trained by Jean Balmer, beat Sweden, trained by Jamie's current employer, into second!
Matt Griffiths, currently lying second in the national novice championship behind Toby Greenall, rode his first double at Cothelstone. He took a division of the 2m4f Maiden on New Mill Moll, and followed up in the Dodson & Horrell Novice Riders' contest on King's Wood.
There was a first success at Barbury for Daniel Collins, 19, who won the Confined on Chaucers Miller. Daniel works for Paul Nicholls.
