05 May 2011 Watering Plans: 14th and 15th of May meetings

Advance information has started to come through for meetings taking place over the weekend of May 14th and 15th.

  • Officials at the Fernie Point-to-Point have issued a bulletin ahead of their meeting at Dingley on Sunday 15th May. The Clerk of the Course reports that watering will commence early next week and continue as necessary, with the aim of producing ground as close to good as possible on the day of racing. Rain is forecast over the weekend. Entries for this meeting close at 8pm on Sunday 8th May; full details can be found on page 320 of the National Planner.
  • The Golden Valley team are preparing to start watering the course at Bredwardine from this weekend (7/8th), and are also hoping for some showers over the coming days. Entries for the meeting close at 12 noon on Monday 9th May. Update 8th May: ground is now good, good to firm in places following rain, more rain is forecast.
  • The Llangeinor at Laleston: proposed groundwork commenced on Friday the 6th of May. The course was fully worked with an Aerovator on Friday to maximise the effect of watering, which will commence after the initial groundwork on the 6th and will continue on a daily basis up to race day. The Aerovator will be used for a second time, if deemed necessary, following a course inspection on Thursday the 12th of May.
  • The Grafton Hunt (15th) at Whitfield: updated Sunday 8th May. Following rain the ground is now good to firm. Watering is taking place, and will continue all week. All rails on bends and fences have been moved to new ground which is unraced since last year, and there is good grass coverage. If anyone has any urgent queries they are welcome to contact the clerk of the course on 07587 184448.
  • The ground at Hexham for the Haydon meeting is currently good to firm, firm in places. The course will be spiked on Monday 9th May and watered daily thereafter. Rain is forecast.
  • Minehead Harriers and West Somerset: The course was watered as of Wednesday, 27th April and has a good covering of grass all the way round. Watering will continue in line with the weather forecast. The aim is to produce even, safe, jumping ground.
  • North West Point-to-Point Club at Tabley: Clerk of the Course, Robert Hankey states that he will commence watering from this Thursday (5th May), as required, to achieve Good ground on race day. Entries close to Nick Bostock this Sunday 8 May.
  • ADVANCE UPDATE: The course at Cothelstone for the Weston & Banwell Harriers meeting on Wednesday the 18th of May will be watered from Thursday the 12th of May until raceday, rainfall dependent. The fences in the back straight have been moved out onto fresh ground, and the course will also be agrivated.
