05 May 2011 Preview: Betting Pointers for Bilsdale - Easingwold
by Will Milburn
The Bilsdale hold their Point-to-Point at Easingwold this Saturday, with the first race starting at 2pm. The ground is always well maintained and a large number of runners are expected.
The first race is the Members race and has six entries. Go Moss Go was a one paced second recently and usually needs firm ground to be at his best. Forsomeonelikeyou was a fortunate second at the Pendle Forest where he looked outpaced and will need to improve on that effort to take this. Scale Bank is an interesting recruit from the Swinbank yard, the impressive winner of a Sedgefield hurdle and with an official rating of 108, looks the best of these.
Selection - Scale Bank
The four, five, six and seven-year-old Open Maiden race is next on the card, and entrant Adin Abroad is a front running pointer who caught the eye at Whitwell. Arlington House is a non stayer but has ability, Bad Boy Bonney looks somewhat moderate, whilst Blaney Bouncer has showed very little promise since an encouraging third last season. Cherry's Bay was second in a very moderate maiden recently, Mantel Hill was sixth on his debut and can improve for that, along with My Clementine who was a good second at Dalton Park and may come on for her recent flop. Oaklands Rosie is out of Wynyard Lady who was the winner of six races under rules and can go nicely for a yard that does well with these types. Lord Luso may employ his trailblazing tactics again and was leading until falling at the last at this track two weeks previously so could be hard to peg back.
Selection - Lord Luso
The third race is the Novice Riders race and though Blandings Castle is in form he won't get such an easy lead this time and may struggle. Jabo is in excellent form recently and can go well again here, whilst Mister Quasimodo has plenty of ability but looks quirky. New Time is running well but may find one too good, whilst Sally Cranny will struggle to employ her trail blazing tactics here. Nile Moon could be the one to beat along with Wantage Road if in the mood, however Madison De Vonnas has been placed on several occasions this season and his recent third behind two useful Open horses can see him go close.
Selection - Madison De Vonnas
The Mixed Open starts at 3.45pm and the one that could outclass all of these is Oaklands Bobby, a talented performer on a sound surface and sharp track and was the impressive winner of the Ladies Open at Morden recently so will be hard to beat. Brize Norton quickened up stylishly to win at the Cleveland meeting, whilst Crozan and Mister Quasimodo have failed to produce anywhere near their NH form. Over To Joe is a recent course winner and with a strong ride could go close again, Sea Senor is very talented, but also extremely quirky so should be swerved for now. Unjust Law looks moderate this season whilst Wantage Road could go well if in the mood.
Selection - Oaklands Bobby
The Confined race could be the hardest of the day. Jabo is in good form at the moment so should be in the places, Finney has looked moderate in points, and Fortune's Fool has been running well for a 12-year-old and if conditions are fast can go well, on a track that will suit. Mr Gossip is the best of these on form, but the fact he is struggling to get his head in front is a worry, and whilst stable mate On Holiday bounced right back to her best recently, there are very few, if any, four-year-olds that win at this level. Thistle went very close recently, whilst Scale Bank was a useful performer under rules. Knoxhill Archie comes to form this time of the year and his previous third was very encouraging considering his lack of runs this season.
Selection - Knoxhill Archie
The Restricted sees two recent course winners in Jumeirah Jane who was the easy winner of the older Maiden, whilst Winter Sunshine came from a long way back in the younger Maiden to recorded the fastest time of the two and should progress further. Oriel Bank is in good form and continues to run well, so a place effort should not be out of the question. Saddlers Mot can be forgiven a recent modest effort, however prior to that went very close at Mordon and is another who can have a say. Sally Cranny was a devastating winner of the Conditions Maiden at Charm Park, however the time of that race was around twenty seconds slower than the previous so she may be up against it. Sportingfriendship won a very weak maiden and it's hard to know what he achieved there, Tara's Joy stayed on nicely at Witton Castle after slipping on the bend and was a bit unlucky that day, whilst The Tinkerator was in contention until coming down four out at the course.
Selection - Jumeirah Jane
The Open Maiden ends the day and holds 19 entries. Botany Cove was second at the Brocklesby, but looked well held when unseating since then, Buckshaw is extremely consistent and his recent second to Jumeirah Jane was very respectable, suggesting he can finally get his head in front in this modest event. Cherry's Bay was a well beat second in a very weak maiden recently, Cosmic has been in good form all season, but another place could be his best. Oaklands Somthin has showed a lot of promise in the past, however has failed to produce it this season and a big performance at a big price would be no surprise. Pavanne was runner up to Winter Sunshine last time and can give another good show, along with Sprout who stayed on well here last time but is held on the form by Buckshaw.
Selection - Buckshaw
