27 April 2011 Preview: Betting pointers for Zetland - Witton Castle

by Will Milburn

The Zetland hold their meeting this Bank Holiday Monday at Witton Castle, with the Hunt Members race starting proceedings at 2pm.

The Zetland Members is always an entertaining race, and this year could see several good chances line up. Blaney Bouncer and Roman Cruise are two to watch, with the latter looking an impressive victor last time out. Saddlers Singer perhaps struggles to make the distance over three miles, whilst I See A Star was staying on encouragingly at the Bedale and should take a place. However, this looks like a good opportunity for The Stickler who likes this track and would be hard to beat on firm ground.
Selection - The Stickler

The second race is the Intermediate race and only holds nine entries. Rich Hill can go well after showing plenty of promise earlier this season, and whilst Joseph has disappointed several times of late, he always goes close round here and is one to note. If the going is on the firm side Go Moss Go will be very hard to beat as he relishes the conditions and has won at this meeting previously, but Chip N Pin could push him all the way as he is progressing well this season following a good success at Whitwell.
Selection - Go Moss Go

The Restricted is next, and though Arctic Rock and Arty Farmer are both recent winners, doubts may be raised over the latter's effectiveness at three miles. Grounded Again has attracted support on several occasions and failed to deliver so should not be over looked. The Tinkerator was going well until departing and has the ability to take this; Once Before is slowly coming back to his best and another step forward would see him go close, whilst Taras Joy was narrowly touched off last time by the decent stayer Triggers Sun. Saddlers Mot proved his ability when a close second recently and another bold bid should be expected. Oriel Bank continues to be consistent and should go well.
Selection - Saddlers Mot

The Mens Open looks wide open. Course specialist Andre Chenier always runs well here and should be noted, Finney has been placed several times but looks as though he is struggling to worry the leaders, whilst Northern Revoque won at this course last season and another good run would be no surprise. Tank Buster appears to struggle on quicker conditions and may find one too good here, along with Seafire Lad. The Stickler won this contest last year and can go well, along with Topinambour.
Selection - Andre Chenier

The Ladies Open looks very competitive and Cottam Phantom could be hard to catch if conditions are firm. I See A Star was staying on nicely previously, where he had the unfortunate Madison De Vonnas behind him, who ran a good fourth at Easingwold last week. Impact Zone can go very well here as he has been in good form all season, and though Keeverfield has racked up several victories this season, one or two of Sam Drake's horses are beginning to underperform. Nile Moon has the beating of Impact Zone and this track should suit his tactics, whilst Nirvana Du Bourg caused a bit of a surprise to win at Corbridge after a string of disappointing efforts; if repeating that can go close.
Selection - I See A Star

The final race is the Open Maiden race which has thirty three entries. Bishops Ploy was a good third at Hurworth, Botany Cove was a weakening second at Brocklesby Park, and Cosmic looks to stay well and could take a hand here, along with the lightly raced Hurlstone Tower. Max And Mix has run his best race at this track, My Clementine was second to Cricket Bat and looks as though she stays extra well. Naughty Diesel showed his first piece of form when second at Tranwell, but Reef Dancer has a string of placed efforts to his name and looks more than good enough to take this.
Selection - Reef Dancer
