Horseheath hosts the only Point-to-Point Nationwide this coming Saturday, February 5th; it promises to be a superb Cambridgeshire with Enfield Chace fixture with a bumper Entry of 150 horses and the return of the brilliant Cappa Bleu a possible highlight.

Cappa Bleu made a sparkling British debut at this very meeting two years ago before going on to triumph in the Cheltenham Foxhunter. He disappointed when tried under Rules last season but is now returning to Point-to-Pointing under the care of his Owner, Angela Rucker.

He may need to be somewhere close to his peak if that unblemished record is to be maintained as his 24 potential opponents in the Mens Open include the six-time Hunter Chase winner, Coolefind; former high class Rules performer and recent Ampton winner Kornati Kid, another Ampton hero in Ballygalley Bob and Sigma Digital, who has won both his starts since joining the David Kemp yard.

The Ladies Open is the reported target for a third Ampton scorer, Mid Div And Creep, who has yet to have her colours lowered in six appearances at this fine course, which puts the emphasis very much on stamina with its uphill finish.

However, the Alan Hill-trained mare may need to produce a career best if she is to keep the title of ‘Queen Of Horseheath' as both Kicks For Free and Description are among her 19 possible rivals.

Kicks For Free was formerly a very handy horse among the professional ranks for champion Trainer Paul Nicholls and has registered a pair of smooth Cottenham successes since dropping down to Pointing. Description began his season by beating a strong field at Larkhill last month.

The action gets under way at noon with an eight-Entry Hunts Club Members Race and runs through until 3.25pm when there are 19 candidates for the older horse Maiden.

Seven races are carded but there is a chance that either or both of the youngsters Maiden (with 26 engaged and a maximum field size of 18) and the Restricted (28 engaged and only 20 allowed to run) could be divided on the day.

Horseheath is four miles west of Haverhill (post code CB21 4QF) with easy access straight off the A1307. Admission will be charged at £10 per head with under 17s free.
