01 April 2011 Crocked Dawson in Transit
by Carolyn Tanner
Chris Dawson, who dislocated his hip in a fall at Overton on Saturday, moved in mid-week from Glasgow to James Cook Hospital, Middleborough.
His mode of transport was not an ambulance, as none was available, but a transit van driven by his father, Chris snr, with the patient lying in the back on a mattress.
He was hoping that an operation to remove a bone chip could be carried out quickly so that he could be allowed home, although Middleborough is in any case more convenient for visitors than was Glasgow. "It was pretty boring because I didn't see anyone for three days," he admitted.
Unfortunately, due to the circumstances, Chris will have to sell some of the young Pointers which he was due to run this season (see Stable Tour, 31st January). "Most of them are within three weeks of a run, so if anyone wants a ready-qualified horse, perhaps as a replacement, they can come and have a look," he said. "They've been well-schooled, and we're not asking silly money."
