01 March 2012 Preview: Chiddingfold, Leconfield & Cowdray - Tweseldown
by Robin Gray
Tweseldown stages the Chiddingfold, Leconfield and Cowdray Point-to-Point on Sunday 4 March with seven races starting at 1.00pm. The February meeting on the course was cancelled because of frost in the ground, but as a result, the course is now in perfect condition for racing.
Local champion jockey Philip York, with just four winners, has had a slow start to the season. Five rides on Sunday give him a good chance to increase his total.
York's best chance of a winner may come in the Philip Scouller Mens Open. 'I ride Caught In Time, having won five races on him last season.' said York. 'This will be his first race this time but he is 100% fit and will be hard to beat!'
The Ladies Open is another in the Nationwide AGA series of races, and Mount Sandel, already twice a winner under 16-year-old Frankie Hickman, will be a short priced favourite here.
Due to an infestation by rabbits, the first fence, normally jumped three times, will be omitted resulting in an extra long run to the winning post. The going is likely to be on the fast side of good - up to date information will be available later in the week. Entrance is £10 a head - under 16's free and the course is well signed on the B3013 between Fleet and Farnham - post code is GU52 8DY.
