03 August 2010 Changes At Larkhill for 2011
by Brian & Gill Armstrong
The 2011 season sees the Army and United Services Point-to-Point merge to form a new meeting - the Combined Services Point-to-Point.
The Coronation Gold Cup, one of the four National Classic races, held since HM The Queen first presented the Cup at Larkhill in 1953, will now revert to being a Mens Open Race, as it was until 1976.
There will be a Ladies Open race on the card and also two Open Maiden races, one for Mares and Fillies and one for Horses and Geldings. There will also be a Novice Riders' race as well as a Restricted and the Combined Services Club Members Race for those with military connections.
The date of the new meeting will be in February 2011.
Under the Chairmanship of Mike Shaw, who remains as Clerk of the Course for another year in 2011, the Larkhill Racing Club Point-to-Point moves from its customary date at the end of May to January, making it the curtain raiser to the Wessex season and the first of six meetings at Larkhill in 2011.
