RHYS FLINT: head to head with Nick Scholfield for the Champion Conditional title

With only just over two weeks to go before the 2009/2010 riders titles are decided, two ex-Point-to-Point Champion Novice Riders are currently fighting it out to become leading Conditional for the 2009/10 National Hunt season.

In 2006/07 Nick Scholfield broke the all time record for a novice with 25 Point-to-Point wins during the season and subsequently became Champion Amateur Rider under Rules.

The following season, 2007/08, Rhys Flint appeared on the Point-to-Point scene after sweeping all before him in Pony Racing and managed to match that record of 25 wins to take the same title.

At present, these two exciting young conditionals are tied on 36 wins apiece; Nick having set the pace and Rhys more recently having made up ground to draw level. The outcome of the championship is decided at Sandown on Saturday 24th April, when the awards are presented.

Two other conditional riders are at present on 31 wins and one other on 30, but it looks as though the title will end up in the hands of one of these two fine ex-Point-to-Point riders.
