18 March 2010 Preview: Curre & Llangibby - Howick
by Brian Lee
The second of the two Curre & Llangibby fixtures take place on Sunday (first race 12noon) and racing gets under way with the Members race for which there are nine entries.
Galtee View, who won a match for the Members at last week's rearranged meeting, will be many racegoers' idea of the winner. However, this former chase winner has also been entered for the PPORA Club Members Conditions race to be run 35 minutes later. Willoughby Flyer, a winner of this race on several occasions, Stroom Bank and Power King look the best of the rest.
Of the sixteen down to run in the PPORA race, Prioritatisation, Sams Lad and Haggle Twins have the highest ratings.
There are 20 in the Mens Open race and these include recent Brecon winner King's Euro, Silver Story and the French-bred Saint Reverien, who will be hoping to go one better this time having played second fiddle on the last three occasions. Another with a good chance is Rae Jones' Up There, a replacement for her Loch Ennel who was a regular winner at Howick.
Keith Pritchard has entered Cannon Bridge and Chandlers Cross in the 20-strong Ladies Open race while Peter Corbett has Upton Legend and Upton Springs to choose from. Another with two entries is Simon Jones and they are Fruitfull Citizen and Derawar. Whichever one his wife Lucy decides to ride won't be far away at the finish. Grey Kid, winner of the Ladies Open here last week, is another with strong claims.
There are 26 entries for the Restricted and these include Dennis Pugh's Mr Cheetham, who just failed to hold off the late challenge of Chandlers Cross at the Brecon & Talybont, Clive Price's Plunge, who lost his maiden tag over the course last weekend and the likely favourite Sahara's Dream.
There are 40 entries for the Open Maiden and the ones to watch here are Little Miss Monty, Saxon Leader and Leprechan's Gold. The first named will be ridden by Wales show-jumper Emily Farr and if Emily finally manages to catch the judge's eye the cheers will be loud and clear.
