Harwood Dale: the selection for the Members race
The Yorkshire Area Point-to-Point season gets back on track after a break of 3 weeks with the Derwent Hunt meeting at Charm Park, Wykeham, on Sunday where 154 entries have been received. The Confined Maiden race with an entry of 43 has been divided resulting in a 7 race card.
The meeting starts at 12.30pm with the Members race. Imps Way would start a hot favourite but is likely to contest the Mens Open race, so the race looks to be between Gollinger, who won several races over hurdles last season, and Harwood Dale, who beat a big field in a Restricted at Brocklesby Park. The latter is the selection.
The Confined has the largest entry of 31 and looks very competitive. Well Presented will start favourite for Oliver Greenall after 2 victories already this season, but Glenelly Gale, ridden by Toby Greenall, will make the favourite fight all the way after finishing 2nd in both runs this year in hot Mens Open races. Others who will be there at the finish are the consistent Mile High City, dual winner Cop Howe, Pikachu Blue, who ran a big race on his return from a 3 year lay off at Duncombe Park, and Madison De Vonnas.
Sonevafushi won his only start in a Mens Open at Witton Castle without breaking sweat and can win the Mens Open on his way to the Aintree Foxhunters'. He will start a short priced favourite, with Imps Way and Sir Alf ,who will be all the better for his last run, filling the places.
The Ladies Open race is top class. Yorkshire's leading lady jockey Jacqueline Coward will have the choice of three - Charlies Memory, Fiori who was unbeaten last year, and One Five Eight, whilst Wilfie Wild could make his seasonal debut. Mooramana was an impressive Ladies winner at Welbeck last weekend, but Duchess Account, who was ultra impressive when making all to win at Duncombe Park, will take all the beating.
The Restricted has 24 entered and the two that stand out are the David Easterby trained Network Oscar and Buyonling trained by his sister Cherry Coward. The latter won a Market Rasen Maiden without jockey Jacqueline Coward having to get serious. The Viking who was given an excellent ride by Mark Walford to win at Duncombe Park will give the leading pair plenty to think about.
The 1st division of the Maiden can go to the Nigel Tutty ridden Go Moss Go who was just touched of by The Viking at Duncombe Park, whilst division 2 looks to be between the consistant Miss Tosca and Robin Tates Summer Equinox who stayed on strong to finish a gallant 2nd at Brocklesby Park and looks a winner in waiting.
Selections: Members - Harwood Dale; Confined - Glenelly Gale; Mens Open - Sonevafushi; Ladies Open - Duchess Account; Restricted - Buy Onling; Maiden Div 1 - Go Moss Go; Maiden Div 2 - Summer Equinox.
