10 March 2008 Derwent - Charm Park
Sonevafushi: owned by Tom Bannister
The Derwent Point-to-Point at Charm Park, Wykeham, on Sunday saw Sherriff Hutton based jockey Oliver Greenall ride 3 winners, to add to the two he rode at Dalston on Saturday, enabling him to storm three winners clear in the Mens National Championship.
His first winner was on Tom Bannister's Sonevafushi who looked to have the race in the bag, after taking up the running after the 13th and was cruising in front, but was challenged when jumping the last by Imps Way. However the 1-3 favourite quickened up well to win by three lengths and is now bound for the Liverpool Foxhunters.
His second winner was on Sales Flow in the Restricted who took up the running at the last and stayed on well to beat long time leader Dix Huit Cyborg ridden by Steve Charlton. The winner is jointly owned by the trainer, David Easterby, and the winning jockey who was given a half share at the beginning of the season on the condition that he would ride the mare for this season.
His treble came up courtesy of Malton in the first division of the Maiden and was the ride of the day. The pair bided their time at the back of the field until creeping into the race with two to jump and Greenall was seen at his brilliant best by putting the favourites head in front with only 50-yards to go.
Jacqueline Coward rode a double on horses trained by her mother Cherry. Charlies Memory, who had benefited from his run in the Ladies Open at Alnwick, started odds on favourite and the pair quickened well from the last to beat One Five Eight by two lengths; whilst Cottam Phantom won the 2nd Division of the Maiden by 5 lengths to give owner Suzie Gordon her first winner with only her second runner.
Harwood Dale ridden by Steven Charlton came fast and late to win the Members race while Nathan Moscrop and Scenic Storm, who was making his seasonal debut, got the better of the odds on favourite Well Presented in a driving finish to win the Confined by 1 length.
