Point-to-Point enthusiasts have the choice of two Area meetings to attend over the Bank Holiday weekend.
With just five more to go in the Devon & Cornwall Area before the season finishes, including the Spooners & West Dartmoor's rearranged fixture on June 5, competition is hotting up for the National and Area titles and all roads will lead to Devon in the quest for valuable points.
The Exmoor Foxhounds meeting is at Bratton Down on Saturday with the first race of six races off at 2.00pm. With plenty of other attractions such as tradestands, bookies, a bar and catering the day is sure to be popular.
Richard Woollacott heads the National championship on 32 wins but hot on his heels are John Mathias on 31 wins and Jake Greenall on 29.
Reigning National champion Polly Gundry is neck-and-neck with Claire Allen with 15 winners each while Lucy Pugsley trails the Novice title by two wins. Lucy's horse Fully Loaded shares the leading horse award with the Woollacott-trained Come What Augustus who scored his eighth win of the season at Upper Sapey on Sunday.
The latter is entered in the Mens Open race where stablemate Whizzaar could also run. Ashley Farrant could saddle recent Bratton Down winner Mioche D'Estruval, Kings Wood or Prince De Bersy while the unbeaten Print The Money may make an appearance.
21 are entered in the Restricted, including Shalimar Fromentro who won Maiden race at Kingston St Mary and could be among the runners for Jane Williams.
Entries in the Intermediate include Cappoquin from Richard Barber's yard, Deb's Dasher and Therecessionbeater.
Entries in the Ladies race include Axe Vale winner Dr Cerullo, who acts on any ground, the Mary Tory-trained Miss Midnight who has scored twice this season and Brown Cockle, who will enjoy the stamina demands of the course.
The betting is the key to the Maiden race and He Be Cornish and Densie's Dip both went into plenty of notebooks after good runs at the course two weeks ago. He Be Cornish was third and Densise's Dip finished second in their respective Maiden races. Another consideration is Eslin Bridge, second two weeks ago at the course and also entered in the Members race.
The course is located on the A399 just nine miles north east of Barnstaple or 11 miles north of South Molton, postcode EX31 4SG. Entrance is £20 per car and £10 for a single occupant.
Plenty of horses are double entered at the South Tetcott meeting which takes place on Monday at Upcott Cross, Halwill Junction with the first race off at 2.00pm.
The Confined race kicks off the card and among those not previously mentioned are Bafaluto who has clocked up Restricted and Intermediate wins this season, along with Henri Prends Garde who has four wins under his belt.
Beau Supreme, winner of a decent Confined race at Bratton Down two weeks ago, is entered in the Mens Open; Joacci may resume winning ways in the Ladies Open and the Richard Barber-trained Bold Chief could be a penalty kick in the Restricted race.
The Maiden has been split with Madgik De Beaumont, second at Bratton Down, in the first division and the consistent Boluisce and Three Half Crowns both in the second.
The course is situated at Upcott Cross near Halwill, postcode EX21 5AE. Entrance is £20 per car and £10 for a single occupant. All the usual on-course entertainments will be there including a bar, catering, bookies and tradestands.
