A course of six riding lessons was enough to convince the then seven-year-old that a life with horses lay ahead, much to the chagrin of her mother, to whom working with equines was not what she had in mind for her daughter, and who is so nervous that she has refused to watch Zoe in action at any time. One training operation which goes from strength to strength each season is that of Rowley Racing, the yard run by Phil and Mel Rowley at Morville in Shropshire. Phil, who comes from a farming background, started training Pointers five years ago, and from the yard's 42 runners during the last campaign sent out 14 winners and 17 placed horses, a strike rate of which any licensed handler would be proud.
