The curtain will fall on the Welsh Border area Point-to-Point season this Saturday (14th) at Bredwardine, for the Golden Valley fixture.
The beautiful riverside course has had a couple of good days of rainfall, but Clerk of the Course Denis Price is poised to water if necessary to provide the best possible going conditions. The going on Monday was described as good, with the odd good-to-firm patch, but is expected to be consistently ‘good' by Saturday.
Some of the Area Championships are very close at the moment, and the seven races on the Golden Valley card may well decide who will be taking home the area silverware. Upton Springs, who ran such a breathtaking race to be second at Cheltenham in the AGA Ladies Final recently with Sarah-Jayne Davies, currently just heads the Leading Horse Championship. She is entered in the Ladies Race but has hot opposition in Chesnut Annie, Virginia Preuil and Stratford Stroller.
The first race, scheduled for 2 pm, is the Members Race, and local beautician Sheila Lewis will be hoping that her bargain basement hunter, Interpleader, will land his third win of the season for her.
The popular course, (HR3 6DD) with its marvellous natural grandstand, can be found near Hay-on-Wye on the B4352, eleven miles from Hereford.
Entrance to the course is £10 per person, children under 16 free.
