RICHARD WOOLLACOTT: trains and rode Whizzaar

The first Hunter Chase of the season took place at Wincanton yesterday and those that subscribed to the Bettrends Hunter Chase Service were celebrating after Whizzaar landed the e/w money with a fine second just one length behind Turthen, beating the strongly fancied Halcon Genelardais into third.

"WHIZZAAR - Very useful West Country stalwart whose three wins last season included an impressive success at Hereford when he gave the useful Lady Myfanwy nearly a stone. Had earlier lost nothing in defeat when trying to concede lumps of weight to Sericina and was not fazed by a bone-crunching fall in the Aintree Fox Hunters. Will certainly try his heart out, though.

Conclusion - Halcon Genelardais and Ornais are the star turns here; the former is the clear pick on all known form but is unlikely to find conditions playing to his strengths and preference is for the Stewart/Nicholls gelding, who was developing into a classy performer before injury halted him in his tracks. Of the recognized Pointers/Hunter Chasers, Gentle George has the most potential but ground quicker than good/soft would not be ideal, so it may be worth looking at Whizzaar (2nd @ 22/1) for an each-way punt. Moncadou is an obvious alternative, but may not be the strongest of finishers."

There's still time to join the service with the next race taking place at Wetherby on Saturday. Just click here!
