17 March 2008 Holderness - Dalton Park

Duchess Account & Narciso: fought out the finish of the Ladies' Open

Duchess Account once again stole the show at the Holderness Point-to-Point at Dalton Park, near Beverley, on Sunday ridden by Emma Brader. The pair came fast and late to beat long time leader Narciso by a length. This was a just reward for the Brader family who had the favourite Skew Whip in the Mens Open but was pulled up lame after a circuit. Duchess Account will be put in foal at the end of the season but not before contesting the prestigious Grimthorpe Gold Cup in which there would be no more popular winner.

The Mens Open went to Guy Brewer ridden Ask Bobby for the meeting Clerk of the Course Mike Sowersby. The pair led after the third last and easily held on to beat Iron Express by 2 lengths. This was the winner's first run since falling at Thorpe 7-weeks ago, as connections had been waiting for good ground.

There was no more popular winner at the meeting than that of Celioso who gave Sally Ireland her 1st winner in the Members. The pair made most of the running to beat Wise Tale by 10 lengths.

Young Claude, who won the Restricted at last season's meeting, stripped much fitter for his debut run at Corbridge. Ridden by Miles Seston, for Judy Plummer, last seasons leading Novice in the area led from the 13th fence and resisted the persistent challenge of Golden Streak to win the Confined by 1¼ lengths.

National leading rider Oliver Greenall maintained his lead with victory on Network Oscar in the Restricted. The pair led at the 3rd last but were pushed all the way to the line by Jacqueline Coward on Buy Onling.

The consistent Miss Tosca, who has finished in the frame in all 5 previous starts, justified favoritism in the Mares Maiden race in which 12 of the 13 entered took part. Ridden by Tina Jackson the pair were always at the front and managed to hold on to beat Sams Party by 2 lengths.

The Open Maiden race was split on the day, the 1st Division going to The Husseys Duke who led approaching the 2nd last fence under Steve Magee and held on in a driving finish to beat the Artful Fox by 1 length, with the favourite Opio 1 length back in 3rd.

The 2nd Division went to Go Moss Go who had finished a close second on his debut at the Sinnington. Ridden by Steven Charlton, who was deputising for the injured Nigel Tutty, the 3/1 shot stayed on best to beat Tony's Pride by a length much to the delight of owner Steve Jones who originally bought the 8 year old as a hunter for his 16 year old son Ross.

Next weekend sees two meetings in the Yorkshire Area - the Hurworth at Hutton Rudby on Saturday with a 1st race time of 1.00pm; and the Staintondale at Charm Park, Wykeham, with a 2.00pm start on Easter Monday.
