15 September 2010 Star Pointer Horus Passes Away
by Paul Champion
Horus, one of the best horses to grace the Point-to-Point circuit in the last decade, has passed away at the age of 15.
The son of Teenoso won seven of his first eleven starts in Point-to-Points and Hunter Chases for David Pipe, being rated an impressive 11-5 in the 2002 edition of Hunter Chasers and Point-to-Pointers. The 'Bible' of Point-to-Pointing stated that year "travels and jumps well, oozes class and must not be missed when sent over the bigger obstacles".
That proved to be a prophetic statement as he proceeded to win numerous big races for Pipe senior when sent under Rules. Amongst his notable successes were wins in the 2003 Ascot Silver Cup, when he beat the brilliant Behrajan, and the following season's Grade 2 Edward Hanmer Memorial Chase at Haydock.
Horus was retired at the end of the 2005/6 National Hunt season having earned over £200,000 in prize money for his owner Brian Kilpatrick.
