Leading local rider Philip York got off the mark for the season on Seymar Lad at Tweseldown on Sunday.
Seymar Lad took up the running from Royal Tir with six fences to jump in the Spray Tek Hunt Members Race and coasted home for an easy success. Royal Tir and 18-year-old Megan Trainor finished second - the partnership doing well to avoid In Media Res who had fallen at the last fence.
Both Frankie Hickman, 16, having her second ride and Chloe Swaffield, 24, racing for the third time scored their first successes in the BFJ Consulting & Queens Hotel Portsmouth Ladies Open and Division 1 of the Brandon Hire Maiden respectively.
Mount Sandel and Hickman made all the running in the Ladies to score by three lengths from Armoury House, but Swaffield had a harder task to persuade Battle Bridge to beat favourite Jimmy The Hat by half a length.
Divine Intavention was favourite for the Painsmith Solicitors Mens Open but had to give best by a length to Lorikarad ridden by Liam Payter. The winner is trained in Worcestershire by Charlotte Jones who has just the one horse in her stable.
With 55 runners from 74 entries this was one of the most successful meetings in recent years at Tweseldown. It augurs well for the Club fixture on 5th February 2012 when holders of the orange wristbands from last season's meeting will be admitted free of charge.
