25 July 2011 DARE JOINS CYCLE RIDE
by Carolyn Tanner
Six-times ladies' champion Alison Dare will be joining Jane Williams and Lorna Brooke on their charity ride to raise money for Isabel Tompsett and the Injured Jockeys' Fund.
"I wish I'd known about it earlier, then I'd have had more time to prepare and I'd have ridden the whole way," said Alison, who will be joining the duo at Bristol and keeping them company all the way to their destination at Land's End.
Alison is no cycling virgin, as that was her mode of transport for some time last year when she lost her driving licence, although the fact that her bike had a small electric motor attached did make things easier!
She was, though, not too impressed with her recent practice session, when she pedalled from her home near Malmesbury to Swindon. "It was a la Bridget Jones when I got back," she laughed, referring to the hapless heroine who fell flat on her face when she got off her exercise bike.
She is hoping that the fact that she is nearly twice the age of Jane and Lorna will arouse some sympathy (or pity!) and encourage extra support for the charity. Anyone who wishes to sponsor Alison can contact her on 07768 628924.
