23 February 2011 Former Novice Champion Cook To Make Return

by Carolyn Tanner

Jason Cook, the 2000 national Novice Champion, has returned to the racing saddle after a gap of five seasons.

Jason partnered Woody's Dream for trainer Debbie Faulkner at Whitwick on Saturday, and he is hoping to pick up plenty of rides as the campaign progresses.

His previous ride had been on Lost Treasure at Rhydygwern in 2005, but it was not lack of enthusiasm which caused his sabbatical. "I never actually retired," he pointed out, "but I was so busy at Evan's [Williams] that there wasn't much time at weekends."

His tally between the flags is currently 23, while his five successes under Rules include the 2005 Dunraven Bowl on the Williams-trained Cherry Gold, owned by Bob Mason.

He left Evan's stable, where he was one of the senior staff members, in September last year, and has been riding out for different yards, including those of Debbie and Michelle Harris. He still lives near Usk, and has stated he would be happy to ride out and school whenever and wherever possible. He will also take in breakers and problem horses, and can be contacted on 07912 359425 / 07855 339945.
