17 March 2009 Preview: Lamerton - Kilworthy

ROCKWITHACAVEMAN: may bid for a repeat Mixed Open win

The Lamerton Point-to-Point has attracted a total of 111 entries for their popular fixture at Kilworthy on Sunday which gets under way at 12.30. All six races have double figure entries on what looks like a very good quality card.

Rockwithacaveman bids to repeat last year's Mixed Open win. The seven-year-old returned to his best form when taking the feature race at Buckfastleigh recently and can continue Polly Gundry's winning spell. Spuddlers Dream, Mioche D'Estruval and Paddy The Piper may prove the main dangers.

The Restricted has 30 nominations and sets a real puzzle with ten of the field holding winning form this season. Super Lady proved her staying ability at Buckfastleigh and the Kilworthy track can be quite demanding. Montenda also won well two weeks ago and is another potentially smart stayer. Bafaluto beat a subsequent winner at Great Trethew where Bishy Barnaby won in a canter. Mymystery Man acted well in the mud when scoring at Barbury Castle and could represent the Barber yard. Previous Restricted form brings in Moment Of Magic, who just failed to catch Tres Bien at Buckfastleigh and looks sure to win a similar race before long.

Xila Fontenailles has been a creditable runner up on her last two outings and can go one better in the Confined at the main expense of Cookies Bank. If the form book is anything to go by, Jack's Taxi is a good bet to win the Exeter Racecourse Intermediate. Camilla Scott's eight-year-old beat subsequent dual winner Jean's Joy at the Mid Devon and would not have to improve much to score here.

Course winner Brook Castle and The Boss Roche look best of the 11 entries for the Hunt race, but winner finding may be more difficult in the Maiden. The 22 nominations include Barrel Rock, Harpurs Girl, Fair Play Man and Gunpark. Karley ran well on his seasonal debut behind Celtic Society at Ottery and can again be in the shake up here.

The track at Kilworthy is situated one mile west of Tavistock, just off the A386 (PL19 0JX). Entrance costs £10 per car and driver plus £5 for each additional passenger.
