14 January 2010 Larkhill optimistic of racing

by Weatherbys Chase Staff

Officials at Larkhill are cautiously optimistic that the Royal Artillery Hunt meeting, scheduled for Saturday 23rd January, will be able to go ahead.

On Wednesday 13th January there was a two-inch covering of slushy snow on the course, but underneath the snow, and an excellent covering of grass, the course is in good shape with surprisingly very little frost in the ground.

If the weather forecasts issued by the met office at nearby Boscombe Down are accurate the snow should have melted by early next week, and if that is the case the chances of the meeting going ahead are good.

The fences are now out on the course and the wings and running rails will all be going up over the next few days; so if there is a meeting the course will be well up to its usual high standard.

It is too early to say what the going will be, but a further update will be posted on *Talking Point (09068 446061), on Monday 18th January, after which a daily update will be available.
