13 April 2011 Preview: Ludlow - Bitterley
by Stella Havard
Point-to-Point racing followers will be heading for Bitterley this Sunday (17th), for the bumper Ludlow Hunt fixture.
The flat left-handed course in the heart of beautiful Shropshire countryside is always popular, and the usual huge crowd is expected to enjoy the card with a minimum of seven races, and a great selection of trade stands and entertainments.
With the Welsh Border Counties season now at halfway, the Kimbolton stable of Sarah-Jayne Davies is galloping away in the championship race. Sarah-Jayne herself is currently heading the trainer and lady rider tables, while her partner and stable jockey, Jeremy Mahot looks set to retain the rider's championship. Both will be looking to increase their lead at Bitterley.
The tapes will go up for the first race, the highly competitive Members event at 1.30pm, but early arrival is recommended to avoid traffic queues.
The delightful course (SY8 3HF) can be found 4 miles north-east of Ludlow, just off the A4117. Entrance to the course is £10 per person, children under 14 free.
