Organisers of the Modbury Point-to-Point at Flete Park this Saturday have been rewarded with a bumper entry for the course following the efforts of ground staff to produce good, safe jumping ground at the course two weeks earlier, for which they were handed plenty of plaudits.

More than 80 horses have been entered for the six race card, prior to which two pony races will take place, starting at 1pm, which have also received the maximum number of runners.

An Open Maiden race begins the main action at 2pm and connections of eternal bridesmaid Josiah Bay, who has finished second on six occasions, will be hoping he gets his head in front. Others with bits of form include Harpurs Girl who was beaten eight lengths in a nine runner maiden at Upcott Cross in April, Lady Oaksey who was well beaten in third at Cothelstone, River Conquest and Up The Wycombe.

Entries in the Restricted include Moonberry, who demonstrated his liking for the course when winning a maiden two weeks ago. He could face a challenge from Erehwon who was an easy winner of a five runner maiden at Badbury Rings.

The Ladies Open will be a gruelling test of stamina over 4m. Bucket Awl has a fine record at the course, winning on two occasions, but Wee Fly looks the one to beat on the back of three Point-to-Point successes this season.

A Maiden Race restricted to four, five, six and seven-year-olds and run over 2m4f may be a chance for Moonchrome to get his head while Modern Day Icon is another who will be fancied to go well after being beaten half a length at Littlewindsor three weeks ago.

The Mens Open has attracted 13 entries including course winner Paddy The Piper and Turning Tide, who has now scored three wins in a row. Charley Stanley's gelding is also entered in the Confined and could face Rockwithacaveman, who resumed winning ways at Kingston St Mary a couple of weeks ago.

The course is situated on Modbury to Plymouth road near Ermington and entrance is £20 per car or £10 per car and driver. As well as the racing there will be plenty of trade stands, bookies, catering and a licensed bar.

Racegoers are advised to allow plenty of time to get onto the popular course.
