24 March 2010 Preview: Oakley - Brafield-on-the-Green
by Claire Hart
The second of the two South Midland area meetings this weekend comes from Brafield-on-the-Green. This track is situated just off the A428 east of Northampton on Horton Road.
Entrance costs are £10 per head, with under 16's free. With a bumper entry of 158 and seven races it promises to be an action packed day.
The first race of the day is the Open Maiden, this has already been split having attracted 51 entries.
The Open races both look as if they will be competitive, the Ladies holds entries from Free who may be 15 now but if he remains in the same vein as last season he could still be a force to be reckoned with. He has won twice here previously and will be partnered as always by Gemma Hutchinson. Tash McKim's Kharak or Angela Rucker's Petit Lord would both be worth an each way bet. Most exciting entry in this race is Aintree Fox Hunter specialist Christy Beamish who, if on top form, shouldn't find it too difficult to come home in front.
The Mens equivalent has a small but quality entry with several of these holding placed form already this season. This quick flat track will suit the likes of Blue Hills who won previously at Higham, Bobbies Ryde, who won at Cottenham last time and Wicked Nice Fella who finished second to him that day but has got winning form on this track.
Fifty Yearson is likely to be a short price in the Novice Riders race, he has good form in Open company and won a novice rider race earlier this season at Barbury. He will be ridden by the improving Nick Slatter. Chicuelo, who has been a consistent sort since joining the Point-to-Point scene three seasons ago, has solid form too in this type of race and is sure to run well and will be partnered by either of the Mahon twins. A good run could come from Massini Man, who is trained by Chris Loggin, or Nokimover who has always performed well at this level.
There will be plenty of trade stands for those with a love to shop, also lots of choice when it comes to hot and cold food and drink.
