Red Buttons: one of the Welsh hopes in the Restricted
The Welsh Point-to-Point season comes to an end with the Pembrokeshire meeting at Trecoed and, as usual, a happy wind-up to the season is promised.
Racing gets under way at 2.00pm with the Members' race and of the 13 entries Margaret John's Adventurist, who finished just over 20 lengths behind Little Ed and Balearic Star in the Men's Open at the Countryside Alliance meeting at Bonvilston last weekend, should prove too good for Seaniethesmuggler and Danbury. However, a clear round by Knight of The Road, who has fallen twice in his last four starts, would put him in with a good chance.
There are 27 down to run in the Restricted and if you are looking for an outsider who could be placed at long odds then David Oakes' ex-Irish performer, Lagan Love, is worth a small wager. Lord Daresbury has entered Special Order and Quoquille des Sacart and whichever one faces the starter looks like starting favourite. Welsh hopes rest with recent all the way Bonvilston winner Red Buttons, Oat Hill and Fishguard Filly.
In the Men's Open, for which there are 27 entries, Eddie Ford's prolific Little Ed could go for his ninth win of the season. Lord Daresbury has entered four and, with the highly rated Chorizo also down to run, a cracker of a race can be expected. In the absence of Little Ed, the best chance of keeping the prize in Wales could rest with Paddy Davies' Albrighton winner Seaforde who will not have a four and a half hour journey to make this time.
There are 13 entered for the Ladies' Open and Lucy Jones, who is challenging for the national novice riders' title, will want to chalk-up another win on her husband Simon's Fruitfull Citizen who won by a head from Kinsale King after making nearly all the running when landing the Intermediate at Bonvilston last weekend. Others of note here are Tom Bannister's General Grey and Seaniethesmuggler who is also entered in the Members' race.
There are 16 entries for the concluding Intermediate race - Fruitfull Citizen is also one of them - and Lord Daresbury's Pristine Condition will be most punters choice to end the season with a winner. However, Malton and Tim Underwood's Long Courrier will have their followers too.
