27 April 2011 Preview: Radnor and West Hereford - Cold Harbour
by Stella Havard
Radnor and West Herefordshire Hunt supporters have already been hard at work preparing the course at Cold Harbour, which will host the 4m Mens Open for the Crudwell Cup. Several recent winners have entered for this, the area Classic race, including Tastes Like More and Lathyrus.
Secretary Christine Rogers said of the ground, "We've hired a Verti-Drainer from Ludlow racecourse, which lets the water into the turf, and we're very busy watering ; we're lucky to have a brook near the course, so it isn't a problem."
As well as the Welsh Border Classic race, worth a hefty £700 to the winner, there is a PPA Sponsorship Scheme 2m4f Maiden on the seven-race card, which will be preceded by two Pony Races at 12.45pm. The meeting will close with a Hunt Challenge, for non-Thoroughbreds, open to all, for which entries can be made to Mickey Jones on 01544 370640.
There will also be a parade of the Radnor and West Herefordshire hounds during the afternoon, so the action will be non-stop.
The Cold Harbour (HR6 0JP) course can be found near Monkland, Leominster, close to the junction of the A44 and the A4110, three miles west of Leominster.
Entrance to the course is £10 per person, with children under 16 free.
