24 January 2011 Regulatory News

by Point-to-Point Racing Company Ltd. Staff

Owners and Trainers are reminded of the following important Point-to-Point and Hunter Chase regulations that have been brought in for the current season. These include the new regulations with regards to Overweight and Remounting.

Sponsored Riders and Horses

Please be advised that the PPA's Horse Sponsorship Scheme (HSS) and Riders Sponsorship Scheme (RSS) applies only for Point-to-Point racing, and not for Hunter Chases or any other races run under Rules.

For all sponsorship queries under Rules, please contact the Weatherbys Sponsorship desk (01933 440077)

Overweights and 13 Stone Maximum in Hunter Chases

For the purposes of all races under Rules, including Hunter Chases, please be aware that riders may not weigh out at 4lbs or more overweight (Rule (D) 42.5) and no horse may carry 13 stone or more in such races (Rule (F) 41.7). This does NOT affect Point-to-Point races.

Owners and trainers should be aware that under Rule (B) 25, if they wish to substitute a declared Rider because he will be carrying overweight, a request for substitution must be submitted to the Stewards and, having been approved by the Stewards, the substitute rider must have weighed out at least a quarter of an hour before the time fixed for the race.

Remounting Prohibited in Point-to-Pointing (Regulation 120 (v))

Riders are reminded of the new Regulation 120 (v) (page 116 in the 2010/11 Regulations book) concerning remounting.

Should a rider part company with their horse during the course of the race, they may not remount in order to continue. For clarity, this would take effect from the time at which the Starter has lowered their flag at the Start.

Riders would only be allowed to remount their horses in order to sensibly hack back to the area in which they would unsaddle, and this must be with consideration of the condition of their horses under Appendix V (page 163).

Should you have any queries, please don't hesitate to contact the Point-to-Point Executive at the British Horseracing Authority on 020 7152 0049.

Spurs

Subject to Appendix G of the Point-to-Point Regulations, spurs remain permissible for use in Point-to-Points. However, please note that they may not be worn in races under Rules (including Hunter Chases).
