The British Horseracing Authority have announced some changes to the Point-to-Point Regulations ahead of the 2011/12 season.

The Eligibility to Point-to-Point regulations (as featured in the news story of June 27th) have now been ratified (subject to approval by the BHA Board); please contact the Point-to-Point Racing Company Office on 01933 304795 if you are still not sure whether your horse will be eligible for next season.

Additional regulatory changes for next season include:

Thirteen Stone Maximum in all non-Hunt Members races:  No horse will be permitted to carry more than thirteen stone in any Point-to-Point race, with the exception of Hunt Members races. This ruling will be enforced if a) cumulative penalties raise a the weight above thirteen stone (at which point the horse will automatically become ineligible for the race), or if b) a rider weighs out with overweight that takes his/her weight above thirteen stone (or a combination of both points). In the case of point b), the horse will be allowed to run if a replacement rider can be found who is able to ride at the advertised racing weight (or a weight no greater than thirteen stone)

Club Members Races: All Point-to-Point meetings may now be allowed to hold up to three Club Members races, with no contraints in terms of which Club eligibility is conferred to).

Hunt Members Races: Hunt Members races may now confer eligibility to up to four Hunts, however no Hunt may hold more than one Hunt Members, with the exception of amalgamated meetings who have historically been permitted to hold more than one.

Prize Money: The top band of prize money that may be offered has been raised by £50 - therefore the maximum amount of prize money than can be offered in Open races is now £550, and in all other races £350.
