Lady Myfanwy: entered in the Novice Riders' race
The Point-to-Point action is at Ideford Arch near Chudleigh on Saturday with the first of eight races off at noon. With children's entertainment, bar and food, another great Saturday afternoon is on the cards.
The Members race kicks off the day and Captain Machell, a winning pointer in Ireland, looks an interesting new recruit to pointing after a spell under Rules. He's had a handful of trainers during a relatively short career and improved with the application of a visor when with Emma Lavelle to finish third in two competitive handicap chases. He'll find Point-to-Points a lot easier and given he stays three miles he should come into the reckoning.
His trainer Emma Oliver could also saddle Mister Club Royal who was travelling well at Chipley Park last time until unseating his rider.
The Dodson & Horrell PPORA Club Members Race includes Lady Myfanwy. She's won twice at the course and could easily make it a hat trick having looked as good as ever at Chipley Park a couple of weeks ago where she was in winning form.
Guard Duty is the other interesting entry. A multiple winner when with Martin Pipe, he was subsequently sold to go pointing and won a good race in 2006. He's probably best watched on his return but he could be one to note for the future.
The David Meek Mitsubishi Maiden for four, five and six-year-olds has been split and division two includes Gordon Chambers' Stillhertoes, from a family of good winners who looks sure to keep up the tradition having made a good impression on her debut at the course in December. She will have learned from that experience and will improve again.
Eleven are entered in the Bovey Castle Mixed Open including Ben Robarts' good horse Jalons Star who makes his seasonal reappearance and Iris's Prince who may find this a bit easier having finished fourth in a very competitive mixed open at the course last time won by Double Honour.
Restricted entries include course winner Throwaround and Murphys Man who can get closer than his third at Chipley Park. The consistent Simons Seat is among the Exeter Racecourse Intermediate entries and 32 are entered in the Open Maiden.
