GLACIAL CALL: Young Horse Awards leader could be seen next at Cherrybrook

THE Easter weekend is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the early spring air and the Spooners and West Dartmoor Point-to-Point, just outside Tavistock, looks set to provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy the social side of racing as well as seven competitive contests.

With children's entertainment, a bar, stalls and bookies, the meeting has a huge following in West Devon and racegoers wishing to attend are advised to allow some extra time to get onto the course.

The Members race kicks off the card at 1.00pm. Always hugely competitive, this year's renewal has attracted 18 entries including Jimmy Cole's game mare Holly Walk, the hugely consistent Dutch Bill and Sam Callow's Portway Lane.

The Restricted has attracted its usual good entry and Bowntobebad is sure to be a warm favourite after a promising start to at the Mid Devon meeting at Black Forest Lodge where he won his Maiden in good style. He started favourite at the same venue on Saturday but was withdrawn not under orders as he was slightly lame behind. If he lines up he'll go close. Lord Lescribaa, My Nicole, Lucette Annie, She's Alright, Rocklyn, Job Two, Haveyoubeen and Bold Chief from Richard Barber's yard have all won this season and a cracking race is in prospect.

The Mixed Open has attracted a superb entry including the progressive Glacial Call, also entered in the Confined, who currently heads the national PPORA Young Horse Awards and lies second in the leading horse awards behind Fully Loaded.

Come What Augustus comes from a stable in terrific form and is bidding for a four-timer; Richard Woollacott has also entered Kilworthy open winner Sheriff Roscoe.

Ashclyst had a nice little pipe opener a Black Forest Lodge on Saturday after Jo Buck lost her stirrups and pulled him up; he's entered in the Confined alongside Henri Prends Garde, another entry from Woollacott's stable.

The Intermediate is a qualifier for the final at Exeter on Ladies' night, May 4th and the racecourse will be hoping its own High Spirits goes well enough to merit an entry. He was unlucky at Ottery St Mary but should go well here. Other entries include Turtle Tim, just beaten by the progressive Print the Money at Kilworthy, as well as Labarynth, second at Buckfastleigh.

The Maiden has been split and notable entries include True Tara, Son of Flame, Aironageestring, Delta Borget and Cock of the Rock.

Fill your car for just £20 or go on your own and it's £10. The course is situated at from the A386 North of Tavistock.
