01 April 2011 Tedworth - Advance Bulletin

by Point-to-Point Racing Company Ltd Staff

Officials at the Tedworth have issued a bulletin in advance of their meeting at Barbury Racecourse on April 10th.

The course is reported to be in excellent condition and all fences have been moved to provide fresh ground for the meeting. The ground is currently Good to Firm after some rain on Wednesday/Thursday and the forecast is for more showers next week.

However if necessary the course will be verti-drained overnight / on the morning of the Meeting in order to provide better ground should this be considered necessary. This decision will be made as late as possible to gain maximum benefit. The verti-drain is a tried and tested machine and is used on many racecourses around the country including Ascot and Newbury. It uses solid tines to penetrate and ease the ground by a forced heave action which lifts and de-compacts the soil.

Officials would also like to make Owners and Trainers aware of changes to their race programme this year, which include:

  • A 4 & 5 year old Maiden Race (in addition to an Open Maiden) to provide a better opportunity for younger maidens struggling against older and stronger horses.
  • A Club Members Novice riders race for ten year old and over horses, which is designed to give those decent older horses a better chance of winning a race in the absence of younger rivals.

Prize money has been raised to the maximum allowed level and there will also be a box of Prestat chocolates for all winning Trainers.

Entries close on Sunday 3rd April at 9pm, full details can be found on page 230 of the Planner.
