17 February 2009 Preview: Thurlow - Horseheath

SWEET CITIZON: winner of last month's Ladies Open

Repeat performances could be the order of the day at Horseheath on Saturday for the Thurlow fixture as six of the seven winners from the previous meeting at the undulating Cambridgeshire venue, three weeks ago, are among the 115 entries.

The one absentee is leading Cheltenham Foxhunter hope Cappa Bleu, who is unlikely to be seen again between the flags having followed up his triumph here with another brilliant display at Chaddesley Corbett on Sunday.

But eight of the horses who gave vain chase behind him, including second and third Honourable Spider and Rydal Park, are among the 22 engaged in the Men's Open, as is the impressive Higham scorer, Chilling Place.

Sweet Citizen, Brer Bear, Petit Lord and Denvale, the first four home in last month's Ladies' Open, could cross swords again, although Sweet Citizen could be replaced by his useful stablemate, Madge Carroll, who is also a course winner.

The action gets under way at 1.00pm with a ten-entry Club Members while the last of six races is the Open Maiden, which has 29 possible runners.

Horseheath is four miles west of Haverhill with easy access directly from the A1307. Admission will be charged at £10 per head with under 17s free and £2 for a racecard.
