06 December 2010 Tory Hayter Moves North

by Carolyn Tanner

Contrary to the comment made in "Stable Tour - the Andrews Family," Tory Hayter has not retired as a Point-to-Point trainer. She has charge of a trio owned by her boss Ferdy Murphy, for whom she works as assistant.

The lightly-raced Master Builder is a winning hurdler whose two successes were gained almost three years ago, but Bewery Man, who has also won twice over timber, scored his most recent victory earlier this year. Less exposed is four-year-old Samson Collonges, who has had two runs in France.

Rides will be shared by the two amateurs in the yard, John Roche, who is eligible for Novice Rider races, and Catherine Walton.

Although she found it a wrench to leave the loyal owners who had supported her in East Anglia, Tory, who used to ride out for Ferdy when he was based in Suffolk, felt that the job opportunity offered by the Yorkshire-based trainer was too good to turn down. "It's totally different to the life I had," she laughed. "I don't do any grooming or mucking out, but I do get to ride Big Fella Thanks, and I'm not giving him up to anyone else!"
