TRUE FRIDAY: a sad loss for the Midlands Area

One of the sport's most popular mares, True Friday, had to be put down after incurring a leg injury in the field during the summer.

The leg became infected, and the vets advised that nothing could be done for her. 2010/11 was to have been her last campaign before going to the paddocks.

True Friday, who was born on Good Friday in 2000, was bred by owners Malcolm and Ann Arthers and Ann Prosser, and as a youngster she won several in-hand classes at local shows. She opened her account between the flags in 2005 at Garthorpe, where she went on to score another four times. Three of her nine triumphs came at Clifton-on-Dunsmore, and her other success was gained at Brocklesby Park.

Richard Armson, who partnered her to victory on seven occasions, had nothing but praise for her. "She was a pleasure to ride, and was one horse I really looked forward to," he said. "She was quite strong at home, but on the course she was really straightforward and easy. It's very sad for everyone."
