25 January 2012 Tweseldown - Course alteration reminder

by Robin Gray

Tweseldown racecourse will stage its most lucrative meeting of the season on Sunday 5th February.

The Philip Scouller Memorial Mens Open race offers £450 to the winner while the AGA Ladies Open victor will take home £275.

Following rabbit activity under the racing surface approaching the first fence it has been decided to doll off that obstacle, and the running rail will be moved to direct runners past it, leaving sixteen fences to be jumped.

‘We simply could not have repaired the damage and prepared a safe approach in the limited time available', said Tweseldown Club Chairman Steven Astaire. ‘Races will start on the landing side of the first fence -and there will be a long run in to the winning post - like Cartmel! The remainder of the track is in perfect condition.'

Entries close on Monday 30th January. Holders of orange wristbands from last year's abandoned meeting will be admitted free to the course.
