PERSIAN HERO: entered in the Mixed Open

Bank Holiday Monday, 4th May sees a competitive number of entries for the Warwickshire Hunt Point-to-Point at Ashorne. 189 horses are entered in 7 races with some strong competition from locally trained horses.

With the forecast for a mixed week, officials will be keeping an eye on the weather and will be watering the racing surface if necessary to ensure some quality racing.

Richard Russell, who trains near Towcester, has entered Persian Hero in the Mixed Open in a bid to win the race for the third time in three years. The Waley-Cohen team from Upton have also entered Irilut in the same race and Lucciolina in the Members.

Other locals with entries include Fred Hutsby who has three horses; Oscar Royal, Pocket Tiger and Castle Banquet, all in the Members. The Hutsby yard, who are having a poor season so far with only one winner to date, will be hoping that they can increase the score sheet on this their home track.

There is no need to book tickets - just turn up. The first race starts at 4pm and the gates open from 2pm. There are lots of trade stalls and plenty of space within the parkland to come and have a picnic or enjoy a drink in the bar with family and friends.
