27 January 2011 Preview: West Wales Area Club - Lydstep
by Amanda Sloyan
This Sunday (January 30th) hopefully sees Point-to-Point racing finally get underway at the third time of asking in the West Wales Area after two cancellations earlier in the month. Although organisers would have hoped for a larger Entry, the 75 that have engaged for the meeting are full of quality.
The course, which can be found easily along the A4139 at Lydstep near Tenby, is a free-draining track which has coped as well as anywhere with all the recent rain and provides great race viewing.
The first race is off at 11:30am, a PPA/PPORA Mares only Maiden. This is the first of two races out of the scheduled six race card that are National Series qualifiers, the other being the Novice Riders race which sees the first two past the post qualifying for Dodson & Horrell-sponsored PPORA Novice Riders Final in May which boasts a prize fund of £1,000.
Under 16's are admitted for free to the meeting when accompanied by an adult and it's no better way to have a fun family day out. If you don't fancy making and taking a picnic then caterers will be there for you in attendance along with on-course bookmakers and a public bar to celebrate the successes or to commiserate and reflect on what might have been.
Admission for car & driver is £10, per person £5. Racecards £2.50.
