07 April 2009 Preview: Woodland Pytchley - Dingley

This coming Saturday brings about the annual Woodland Pytchley Point-to-Point meeting to be held at the popular venue of Dingley where a huge crowd is expected to attend. A good entry of 132 horses has been accepted and ground conditions are reported as near perfect.

Admission prices for this meeting are £10 per car + £5 for each occupant. Pedestrians £5, with children under 16 free. There are numerous children's entertainments plus food and market stalls. First race time is scheduled for 2.00pm on this six race card. Please allow plenty of time for parking.

First race up is the PPROA Club Members Race for Novice Riders and this has an entry of 22. The Gerald Bailey trained horse, My Best Buddy, ran second at Guilsborough last weekend and has to be considered. However this could go to recent Intermediate winner, Willie The Kid, who was successful at Garthorpe last month.

King West, Property Developers, have kindly sponsored the Confined Race, which has a good entry of 25. Teeton Dazzler was a winner at Welbeck last month. Picabo Kid won a Members race recently and looks to have the in form Matt Mackley on board. Pleasure Shared has won and been placed in his last couple of runs and is in with a good chance. Another who holds strong claims is French Bey, who has won his last two races. He looks to be the selection here.

Thirteen have been entered for The Mens Open Race and this has been sponsored by Berry Brothers of Kettering. In form David Maxwell is likely to be on Noakarad de Verzee who won the Open race at Godstone, at the end of March. Go North was another winner at Ampton. However this could rest between Cheyne and The Hookie Bookie, first and second in that order at Garthorpe last month.

Race four, the Ladies Open Race, is kindly sponsored by Hows Racesafe and has attracted a field of twelve. This could lie between two top stables. Mike Dawson has top ladies race performers, Sir Storm and Vingis Park, who both had excellent form last season. Patrick and Sue Hutchinson, who have their stables at Thedingworth, have entered fourteen year old Free, a winner of over twenty races and Limerick Leader, three times a winner of this type of race last season. This should produce a close finish.

Race five, the Restricted Race, has been sponsored by Midlands Demolition. A total of 24 are entered here and this race is due off at 4.30pm. This race could rest between the eight year old, Inchadoney Boy, winner of a Maiden in February and six year old, Pingaro de la Vire, third in a Restricted at Garthorpe.

Final race on the card is the Maiden race for 5,6 & 7 year olds, run over 2 ½ miles. 34 horses are entered here and the race is sponsored by Premier Finishes. This looks very competitive but the choice of winner could be left to one of three. Huggle showed some form when second in a similar event at Brayfield. Kandelin, from the Gerald Bailey yard, is well thought of and was a good second on his first outing. However the choice is Lucciolina, from the Robert Waley-Cohen stable. This maiden was a decent neck second in a Maiden race at the Cottesmore and could go one better.

Dingley Racecourse is situated 3 miles east of Market Harborough, near the A427.
